This charming Hotel is located on the upper part of the mountain village of Bitti amid vast Mediterranean nature. Situated at 549 metres above sea level, this little sheep-farming village is an important and one of the best-known centres of the Nuoro region. The characteristic architecture of the village mirrors its agro-pastoral structure with large and small houses and very narrow little lanes that wind their way around the village's historic centre.

Surrounded by raw beauty and natural landscape, Hotel Bitti invites you to experience pure, authentic Sardinian tradition in a truly tranquil location. The warm and welcoming host family offer great hospitality in a friendly and homely atmosphere. The hotel rooms are all comfortably and tastefully furnished in Sardinian style with an elegant flair. In total there are 18 rooms and particular attention has been paid to detail such as antique furnishings and Sardinian handmade bed linen. From the rooms you can enjoy the fantastic panoramic scenery with views of the mountain Albo.

On request the Hotel organises excursions and hikes into the mountains or to archaeological sites.

At the 4-star hotel's restaurant guests can enjoy traditional Sardinian gourmet cuisine - the owner's biggest passion. To accompany dinner, a good local wine should not be missed !

Feasts and Festivals:
The island hosts a feast of festivals and events throughout the year from colourful carnivals to religious processions, a chance to experience a piece of true Sardinia. Carnivals especially are and always have been extremely popular pastimes on the island of Sardinia. Masked and costumed figures will parade around in the villages and towns of the island with local folklore, drinks, food and music displays during the day and in the evening. A wonderful way to immerse with the locals by joining in.
A festival of greatest attraction, dedicated to Our Lady of the Miracle, is celebrated in the town of Bitti and takes place in late September, "Madonna del Miracolo". Following tradition, groups of riders on horseback dressed in traditional costume and carrying the ancient banners accompany the statue of the Madonna in procession along the streets to the church, Santuario del Miracolo.
In the nearby town of Orune, habits, customs and traditions persist perhaps more than in any other place. It is renowned for its craftwork in the working of cork, carpet weaving and the manufacture of traditional costumes. The historic dress of Orune proposes velvet costumes with elaborate handmade shoes. But the village is also famous for its first-rate wine and food traditions and hosts a number of feasts, for example the first Monday of August is the Feast of “Su Cossolu” and the last Sunday in August is the Feast of “Su Carmini”; all of which are enlivened by participants dressed in traditional costume.
One of the most interesting celebrations in the area is The Feast of the Redeemer, the traditional festival of Nuoro (Festa del Redentore) which is celebrated on the last Sunday of August. Parades of folk groups from different towns of Sardinia wearing traditional Sardinian costumes and traditional masks celebrate together, as well as religious events, with a great show of folklore. The festivel begins with a procession from the town to its mountain, Mount Ortobene, and the cathedral where the traditional mass takes place. This event involves much parading, music-making and dancing and is a unique opportunity to admire the splendid traditional costumes of Sardinia.

Bitti and its Sights:
Biiti owes much of its recent fame to the "Tenores de Bitti" group, a singing quartet. This male-vocal group is the most famous exponent of the island's tradional form of harmonic singing. (www.tenoresdibitti.com). To learn more stop off at the "Museo Multimediale del Canto a Tenore" where you can listen to recordings. Bitti’s history has ancient origins. The territory has been inhabited since Prehistoric times and also for a long period during the Nuraghic age. In particular, the archaeological site of “Su Romanzesu” 8,5 km north of Bitti, bears witness to the existence of ancient human settlements. Spread over a seven-hectare site in thick cork and oak wood, this 17th-century BC nuraghic sanctuary comprises several religious buildings and circular village huts and a sacred well temple connected to a semi-elliptic amphitheatre. There are daily guided tours of the ruins. Not far from the village in the direction of Orune lies the Nuraghic well-temple of "Su Tempieso", made up of a number of rooms, built in huge square blocks of basalt stone, housing the sacred well which drew water from a spring used for rituals. In the countryside around Bitti, there are a number of country churches (among these Santo Stefano and “Babbu Mannu”), all of which come alive during the feasts and festivals held each year.

Places of Interest:
There is no better area to experience the mystery and isolation of Sardinian's silent interior. The lonely countryside harbours wonderful archaeological sites and marvellous hiking territory.

Orune:
Set in dramatic hill country, the town of Orune's habits, customs and traditions persist perhaps more than in any other place. It is renowned for its craftwork in the working of cork, carpet weaving and the manufacture of traditional costumes.

Budduso and Pattada,
Budduso owes its prosperity to sheep-farming, the extraction of granite and the working and marketing of cork. Budduso's historic centre has paved roads, which wind their way around the facades of buildings of dark stone. Pattada is a mountain village (almost 900 m above sea level), and has a charming historic centre with paved and cobbled little streets which offer fascinating corners. The granite houses are characteristic with architectural elements on view, which often bear old inscriptions and old well-preserved wooden doors and window frames. As well as the stone buildings, there are also a number of little town houses in neoclassical style with elegant facades and precious decorative elements and several particular buildings in Art Nouveau style. It owes its fame to the craft of knife-making, born here thanks to the presence of a rich ferrous mineral seam, which has been exploited since ancient times. There are many craftsmen in the village who work steel and horn to produce the blades and handles.

Nuoro,
Nestling in the green foothills of Monte Ortobene, Nuoro lies in a land steeped in ancient history. A town sustained by long-held traditions and an ingrained culture. Its museums, some of the island's best, open a fascinating window onto the rural identity of its mountainous environs. To learn about the area’s folk traditions, visit the Museo Etnografico, which has several rooms with traditional costumes, the carnival masks of Barbagia, hand-woven carpets and artistic bread and sweets. But Nuoro also has a very modern cultural establishment; the Museo d'Arte provincia Nuoro (MAN) in recent years has become one of the most lively and exciting places for contemporary art exhibitions. With its permanent collection of works by the best Sardinian artists, and rich calendar of temporary exhibitions. A drive to Monte Ortobene up a 7km serpentine road, on whose summit at 895 m stands the statue of Cristo Redentore (Christ the Redeemer), celebrated by a great festival in the last week in August. The high point of the celebrations is a colourful parade of Sardinian costumes from all over Sardinia, and a procession of the faithful from the city to the top of the mountain.

Supramonte
Southeast of Nuoro rises the great limestone massif of the Supramonte, a mountainous complex characterised by carbonatic highlands and dolines, its sheer walls like an iron curtain. Despite its intimidating aspect, its actually not that high, its peak, Monte Corrasi, only reaches 1463m, but it is impressively wild and makes for raw, uncomprimising landscape made all the more thrilling by its one-time notoriety as the heart of Sardinia's bandit country. The supramonte provides some magnificent hiking and offers various opportunities for excursions on foot, on horseback, in off road vehicles or on quad bikes. Typical lunches in sheep farms can also be organised, the famous "pinnette." It is an ideal spot for speleologists for the sheer number of gorges and ipogean caves that are found throughout the Supramonte. The tall, steep rocky walls are also very popular with climbers. Local guides organise hiking tours along popular routes.
